About Dr.Haynes
John H. Haynes, Jr., M.D, has served as Chief of Staff for North Caddo Medical Center
and as a Board Certified Family Practitioner at The Medical & Surgical Clinic, in Vivian,
LA., since his arrival in 1966. Dr. Haynes received his Bachelor of Science Degree from
Centenary College of Shreveport and his Medical residency training at John Peter Smith
Hospital. Dr. Haynes participated in neurology and hematology research at the University of
Texas Medical Branch and cardiology research at John Peter Smith Hospital, in Fort Worth,
Texas. Dr. Haynes has served on the Caddo Parish School Board, and was instrumental in
establishing the teacher incentives in increased pay for educators to travel into rural areas to
teach. In 1993 Dr. Haynes, in conjunction with Willis Knighton Health Systems and
Louisiana State University School of Medicine, founded and directed a Rural Family
Practice Fellowship Program involving post graduate training in rural areas. He also serves
as the Director/Coordinator of the Family Practice Residency Rural Tract for Louisiana
State University Health Science Center Shreveport. In November of 1993, Dr. Haynes was
selected from a field of three hundred rural physicians to be the first "Country Doctor of the
Year." This award was created to recognize the outstanding contributions to healthcare
made by America's rural physicians. Dr. Haynes was honored by being named Louisiana
Family Practitioner of the Year in 1998, and 2004. He received Louisiana's Rural
Practitioner of the Year award in 1998 and again in 2009. Publications of Dr. Haynes'
